Back to School

Hello RES Parents and Students!

It is with great pride and excitement as your principal that I welcome you all back to Rockdale Elementary for the 2021-2022 school year! I hope you have had a wonderful summer and that you are recharged and ready for the new school year. Our focus for this year is to “Uplift Others”. Now more than ever, we need to uplift each other, and we want to uplift our students. We want our students to enjoy coming to school, and we hope to instill a love of learning that will grow with them. Our goal is for our students to feel good about themselves and what they are learning at RES, and we know it's your goal, too. We want to work together to help our students realize how special Rockdale Elementary School is, and to always #BeRockdaleProud!

School Hours

7:30 am - 3:00 pm  Doors will open at 7:15 am.

7:45 am  Tardy bell rings.

All students will receive free breakfast upon arrival.

First Day Arrival Procedures (8/18/2021)

On the first day of school, you will either send your child on the bus, or you will get into the car line (on Bowser/Belton) to drop your child off from the car.  Parents will not be allowed to walk students into the building. We will have teachers and staff at the north side of the school (the front steps/main entrance) so that we can help the students with the transition.

First Day Fun!

We are going to rent a special sign for you all to come up to school and take pictures of your child at your convenience after the school day is over on the first day of school. This will be similar to what we did last year and I know the kids loved it.  We will have this available from 8/17-8/19 so that we don’t have a large crowd trying to take pictures in the morning before school starts. Please wait until after school to take pictures with the sign.

Visitors will be limited at this time.  This includes bringing lunch or eating lunch with the students.  After the first six weeks, we will evaluate adding a “Fast Food Fridays” policy in the district.  This would be a time for you to drop something off at the front office for your child from a local restaurant, if you choose.  On other days, if you need to drop something off or need to pick up your child, please stay in the car, call the office, and we will help you.

Meet the Teacher

Class lists will be posted at our campus on 8/12 at “Meet the Teacher”.  We will have our “Meet the Teacher” on Thursday, 8/12 from 4:30-6:30 pm. To allow for social distancing, we have split our times as follows:

4:30-5:30 pm Last names beginning with A-M

5:30-6:30 pm  Last names beginning with N-Z

We ask that you come during your child’s designated time, and please only bring only one parent or guardian so that we can maintain social distancing in the classrooms.  This will give parents and students an opportunity to visit with their new teacher and drop off their school supplies.

Registration for new to campus students will be available in person at the Rockdale Elementary Office. Registration Times/Dates for new enrollees are:

         8/05/2021  10:00 am - 12:00 pm   and   1:00 pm - 6:30 pm

         8/06/2021    8:00 am - 12:00 pm   and   1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

If you are unable to register your child prior to the first day of school, then you may come to the elementary gym beginning at 7:30 am on 8/18/2021 to register new to campus students.

Google Classroom

All Pk-1 learners will use Google Classroom for their lessons.  We learned the importance of Google Classroom last year, and we want to continue to introduce our students to this learning platform.  Your child’s teacher will go over Google Classroom with them in school.

At this time, masks are optional for students and staff.

Water Bottles

We ask that you have a water bottle for your child this year to use in our refillable water stations.  They will not be able to use the water fountains due to safety concerns.

Dismissal Procedures

We will run a normal bus route on the first day of school.  It is important that you let the Transportation Department (512-430-6020) know if your child plans to ride the bus prior to the first day of school.  If you choose to pick your child up from school, the following locations are the designated areas:

West Side Entrance (Bowser St.)-Kindergarten pick up location

East Side/Daycare Entrance (College St.)-PK/1st Grade pick up location

We ask for your patience as the first week of school dismissal times take a little longer than usual as we learn our new procedures.  Walkers, including parents who park and get out to pick up their children, will be dismissed after all car riders are released.  Please be courteous in the car lines, stay off of your phone, and watch for students, staff, and other vehicles.  Also, please make sure your child has a car seat if you plan to pick them up from school.

Your child’s safety is important to us and we will work to create a safe and successful learning environment for your child.  We have worked to develop solid instruction for our learners, and we appreciate your continued support as we start our new school year.

This will be a great year as we partner with you in your child’s education.  We will Uplift Others in 2021-2022!
